Education key to Women Empowerment, says Manipur Governor
The Civil 20 Education and Digital Working Group C20 Manipur Symposium on Education and Digital Transformation with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and hosted by Intellectual Forum of North East, Manipur on April 27, 2023.
The event was graced by eminent personalities such as Ms. Anusuiya Uikey, Governor of Manipur, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for Ministry of Education and Ministry of External Affairs, Shri. Letpao Haokip, Minister of Tribal Affairs & Hills/Hort. and Soil Conservation, Manipur, Prof. Naorem Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University, and Swami Devapriyananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Manipur.
During the event, Ms. Anusuiya Uikey, Governor of Manipur, said that C20 Chair Amma is working on service, spirituality, and wellness together, which in India are intrinsically linked. Adding, “We see the love and compassion of Mata Amritanandamayi in India today. Along with mother shakti (sic. power), the image of great men, sages of our country is seen in them.”
The Governor also highlighted the importance of education in empowering women to make choices that can improve their welfare. She stressed that education can increase women’s awareness of their rights, boost their self-esteem, and allow them to assert their rights. She also acknowledged the significant role played by Manipuri women in socio-economic and cultural life.
Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for the Ministry of Education and Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted the role of education in achieving economic and social mobility, inclusion, and equality. He emphasized the need to create open public digital infrastructure in education centers that multiple platforms can use to solve India’s scale, diversity, complexity, and device penetrations.
Dr. Prema Nedungadi, India Coordinator of Civil 20 EDT, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, spoke about the vision of the Civil 20 Working Group on Education and Digital Transformation. She emphasized the need to collaborate with various stakeholders to address critical challenges faced in the education sector, identify best practices, and draft policy recommendations that facilitate digital transformation, empowering students and their communities across different contexts. The policies drafted will be presented to the G20.
The symposium brought together diverse perspectives and innovative ideas from stakeholders across the education sector. Two-panel discussions were organized on “Education under C20/G20 & alignment to National Education Policy 2020” and “Digital Transformation under C20/G20.”
Moreover, the symposium provided a platform to discuss the challenges and opportunities in education and digital transformation and identify policy recommendations to facilitate progress. The event was a resounding success, and its outcomes are expected to have a far-reaching impact on the education sector in India.
