Venue: Gangtok, Sikkim

Since the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by all United Nations (UN) Member States in 2015, countries have been working diligently at achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the blueprint created by the UN. Now at the midway point, there is concern that efforts at meeting the goals are falling short due to a lack of community-level awareness of SDGs and ineffective dissemination & diffusion. This in turn emphasizes the need for community participation in assessing the SDG progress of their respective communities. Hence, people at grassroots levels need to understand the significance of SDGs, conduct activities to disseminate importance, implement best practices in the communities, and assess the community’s sustainability and resilience.

In this context, a training session on Sustainable Development: Concepts, Frameworks and Tools will be conducted at the Sustainability & Resilience Communities Conclave where SDG literacy, sustainable development concepts, sustainability assessment, and participatory sustainability measures will be imparted to CSOs, government officials, school teachers, college teachers, as well as youth community that will include school going students. The participants will be trained with hands-on exercises which will provide the necessary skills to implement sustainable development practices in their community as well as assess the sustainability progress of the communities. The training will eventually enable the community members to be the sustainability champions of their community and directly contribute towards the United Nations’ SDGs while helping the Government of India achieve the sustainability targets.
